“I see this castle almost every day as I walk from my home into town. It just sits there. No one lives there. It is mostly dark in the winter, but sometimes you can see lights inside. Vandals. Homeless. Police. The castle has been here for so long, longer than the church, and yet people have no respect for it anymore. It is beautiful from afar, like those models you see on the television, but once you get close, you see the wear on the stone, on the woodwork, the mold and the spray paint. In summer the flowers bloom around it, and I suppose that is how it wants to look: like life still wants to be there. In the dead of winter, though, it stands alone, and sometimes it even looks as though the trees are swaying away from it, trying to rid themselves of the death that this place holds so deep inside.”
